What is an infographic? If you don't know, go look it up. Read about it and then in your own words tell me what an infographic is. What do infographics do? How do they work? What makes a really good infographic?

An infographic is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent data or information. It can help you simplify a complicated subject or turn a boring subject into an interesting one.

Tell me about your Homecoming weekend! If you didn't participate in the Homecoming festivities, what did you do? Share pics!

On Friday, I cheered at the Homecoming football game against South West, and we smoked them 42-7.  I went to Homecoming with Luke Bernard, and it was super fun.  We went to Newport Grill for dinner, and pictures were at my house.  There were twenty of us in our dinner group, and like thirtyish at pictures.  We only went to the dance for like an hour because we wanted to go to straight to the after party.  Overall, I had a fun time at Homecoming and I can't wait for the next dance.

Imagine Mr. Bacon has asked you to suggest one way of improving Blue Valley High School to make it a better place for students. Think about the changes that are needed at your school. Pick one change you feel would really make a difference and explain what it is and why you'd make the change.

If we could get every student a lap top to get checked out to them for the entire school year that they could take home as well as use them at school, I think that all students would have better grades.
I know the majority of the students at BVHS already have a lap top, but to have one checked out to use at school would be even better because it allows the easiest access to all documents no matter what. If we have our own computers there will be no excuses for not doing your homework.  I know text books are already online, but if we have computers we don't have to have hard copies of the text book and that would help out everyone with super heavy backpacks that can potentially ruin student's backs later in life.

What are your favorite apps on your phone or tablet? Why?

My favorite apps on my phone are snapchat, twitter, messages, and bakery story.  I love to snapchat and text people because it keeps me company when I get bored.  I also like to look at people's snapchat stories because they're really funny and entertaining.  Twitter is my favorite social media app because it's not only pictures, like Instagram, but it's also people's thoughts so I think that's kind of cool.  Bakery story is literally the stupidest game ever but it's addicting. You basically have a bakery that you design and you make food. There are lots of other details and rules, but the main concept of the game is to run a bakery.

What is email? When do you use email in your own personal life? List reasons and ways that people use email. What do you know about "email etiquette"?

Email is a way to send mail on the computer.  I use email in my personal life to send pictures, videos and documents to myself from the school computers, so I can work on whatever I need to at home. Older people are mainly the people who use email, also companies who try to send coupons and updates about their company.  Older people use email as their main way of communication.  For example, my grandma on my moms side still has a flip phone which obviously doesn't allow her to text so she communicates through email and calling.  Email is more professional than texting, so if you wanted to contact a teacher or company, you would use email.

Now that you've been in Emerging Technology for several weeks... what do you think? Do you think the web tools (Drive, Evernote, Bubbl, etc.) are helpful to you? Do you think they will be helpful throughout high school or even college? Explain.

I think that the web tools are very helpful and I will use them for now on for other classes as well as this one.  It is a very easy way to organize, and is an alternate to taking notes with a pencil and paper. The web tools are also a better way to organize because they can be accessed on any computer or any electrical device.

Do you enjoy writing? When do you enjoy it? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why do you think the ability to write is so important no matter what kind of writing it is? Give an example that you enjoyed writing or hated writing. Why?

I enjoy writing, but only for school work.  I don't like to spend my free time writing because I just think it's boring. I like writing realistic fiction, and I don't mind writing essays if the topic is interesting to me.  The ability to write is important because that's how people communicate. If we can't write, we can't communicate in the most common way of communication these days, texting.  I hated writing in seventh grade when my ELA teacher made us keep a writing log and write in our free time.  I hate writing in our free time and I have to have a prompt, which we didn't get, so  I was not the biggest fan of that.  I do enjoy writing in ELA this year when Mrs. Bakalar gives us a prompt and some time to write about that prompt.

Reflect on this quote. Give an example of a time in your life that this might have been the case.

This quote is saying that by not preparing you won't succeed; which is very true in pretty much every situation in life.  You can't expect the best when you haven't even tried to prepare for it.  One example is on a test at school.  If you don't prepare for a test, your results most likely won't be successful.  When it comes to dance, you have to be flexible to be a good dancer, and if you aren't naturally flexible, you have to work for it because it's not just going to come one day, you have to prepare and stretch to become flexible.  In life you have to prepare or you will fail, that's life.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

This weekend I got a car for my birthday.  I got a 2015 white Jeep Wrangler Sahara.  It's a four door, and I'm super super excited.  I don't have my restricted yet, but I am able to get it on the 26th.  I also cheered at the first BVHS home game against West, and we smoked them 27-6. It was way more fun than I thought it would be, even though we couldn't hear the varsity captains calling the chants, so we probably looked like idiots but who cares.  I also celebrated my birthday with my moms side of the family. We didn't really do much besides eat pizza and cookie cake.  I like my dad's side of the family better because there are twelve cousins, and they are all girls, but they all live in Jeff City. Overall, I had a pretty good weekend.

What is the importance of research? Why do you need to know how to research? What have you learned in high school about researching topics and finding quality resources? Have you had a helpful teacher that has taught you to research? Explain.

The importance of research is to learn about different things.  You need to know how to research because you do a lot of it in school, but also if you are curious or just want to know more about a specific topic, if you know how to research it is super easy to find information on whatever you want to know more about.  I have only been in high school for about a month, so I haven't learned much about research here yet.  I know that databases are the best resources to find quality information from. A helpful teacher would have to be Mrs. Edwards because she has been the only teacher that has talked about research so far this year.

Global Issue Selection- Sydney Renkemeyer

Global Issue Selection

For my issue in Emerging Technology I have chosen lung cancer.  I have begun researching the issue and you can find my research questions here.

Wednesday, September 11

Kids these days are crazy and unsocial.  All they do is play on their phones and their lives revolve around social media.  Kids need to socialize in person rather than snapchat or text them.  They are also spoiled rotten.  These days, there are seven year old's who own their own newest, most up to date iPhone.  Kids don't work hard for what they are given.  Everything is just handed to them, and they all think the world revolves around them.  In school, everything is so much easier than when it was back in the 70's and 80's with all of the new technologies. Kids need to realize what life is all about, and that it's not all about them.

Tell me about the global issue you selected. What do you already know about the issue? What are you looking forward to learning about it? Explain.

I chose to research lung cancer because I find the topic of cancer really interesting, so I chose to do cancer.  Lung cancer is one of the most killing cancer, so I chose lung cancer. I don't know much about this type of cancer, but I do know that a main cause of this cancer is from smoking.  My uncle and grandpa both are trying to stop smoking, and I like to research and learn about the cancer smoking can lead to. I am looking forward to learning about what you can do to prevent it, what actually happens when there is cancer in the human body, and the causes and effects.

What did you do this weekend? Share pictures if you have them!

This weekend, I cheered at the Blue Valley football game against Shawnee Mission Northwest on Friday.  It was the first game of the year, and we beat the Cougars 29-0! I also went to the Jeep Dealership with my Dad because I am getting a Jeep Wrangler for my birthday which is on Thursday and I'm super excited!

PSA

Wednesday, September 3

Yesterday I asked your to "think differently" and push yourself to be uncommon with your PSA project using Google Slides. Why do you think I asked you to do that? What is the point? Why not just use bullets and headers? Explain.

You wanted us to push ourselves to be uncommon with our PSA's to make us work harder and to actually try with this project.  You want us to try our hardest on every project we do, and to get to be more and more familiar with Google Slides.  If we just put bullets and headers on our slides we wouldn't learn anything new.  You want us to be the best we can and actually take every project we do seriously.

Tell me all about your Labor Day weekend. What did you do? Include photos!

For Labor Day weekend, my family went to the lake.  We have a lake house at the Ozarks, and we go there a lot in the summer, but Labor Day weekend is the last time we go.  The lake is super fun because my immediate family has our own lake house and then my grandparents have their own next door to ours.  All of my cousins stay at my grandparent's, so I see them a lot over the summer. We have two docks (my family's and then my grandparents have one too), two boats, a jet ski, and a ton of blow up water toys. I usually always bring a friend with me because I don't have a cousin my age. I have twelve cousins, and they're all girls, but none are close to my age.  The closest one is two years younger than me, but my sister is the same age as her.
